Fruit & Mindfulness (Blueberries)
Mindfulness is the mental state of being alert, focused and relaxed while paying attention to sensations, feelings and thoughts happening at the moment (Dhalaria et al., 1123). Mindfulness allows the brain to refocus on a particular moment without passing judgment or interpretation of what is happening. Studies have found several connections between the consumption of fruits and the level of mindfulness. Fruits like bananas, blueberries, oranges, guavas, strawberries and bell peppers have nutrients that improve the health of the brain cells (Dreher 1833). Consequently, fruits are excellent sources of vital minerals and vitamins and tend to be high in fiber. The following are some examples of how specific fruits impact mindfulness;
Blueberries
Blueberries are well known for their ability to boost concentration and memory. This is because they contain antioxidants that stimulate oxygen and blood flow into the brain. The increased oxygen and blood flow to the brain help in keeping the mind fresh. Blueberries contain the antioxidants like tannins, resveratrol, proanthocyanidins and anthocyanin, which boost an individual's focus and event assist the body in preventing dementia, heart case and cancer (Dhalaria et al., 1123). The antioxidants aid in balancing free body radicals to counter oxidative stress and support general body health. Another benefit of incorporating blueberries in the diet is that it boosts motor coordination and slows down memory impairments associated with old age. Scientific studies have established that the consumption of blueberries in old aged individuals helps in increasing brain activity, blood flow and even mindfulness. Lastly, these berries prevent memory loss associated with ageing and reduce the effects of Alzheimer's disease.
