Gastronomy is defined as the practice or art of eating, choosing, and cooking good food. Ultimately it is the study of food and culture.
The word itself is derived from the Greek gastronomia, an alteration of the original gastrologie; gastro- meaning relating to the stomach and -logy, denoting a subject of study or interest.
In the interest of being able to share more than just recipes, we have chosen the name Gastronomia to represents a column about all things food. We felt this was a good fit because we believe the word encompasses the dignity and cultural relevancy of food!
